STRUGGLING TO SEE FAT LOSS?

It’s a funny old game, the fat loss industry. It’s a fairly simple formula to achieve success, but yet we overcomplicate it and perpetuate a try-“fail”-give up-wait-try-“fail”-give up cycle. Rinse and repeat. I call this the “Yo-Yo Diet Cycle”

So if the formula is so simple, why do so many of us still struggle to see progress with our fat loss efforts?

One side of this, is that just because the formula is simple, doesn’t mean it’s real life application is. When we factor in bio-psychosocial factors, past conditioning & experiences, and real-life stress, it makes a simple process very difficult for most. Hiring a Coach can really help with this.

The other side is the Fitness Industry itself. With so many fad diets, so much poor advice and so many companies and individuals out to make a quick buck from you rather than help you for the long term, it’s no wonder you don’t know which way to turn for the best.

Invariably, you end up being drawn to what you know - slimming clubs.

The issue I have with these is that they don’t teach an exit strategy. You are either on their plan or you’re off plan. They don’t want you to know how to do this yourself, because then you won’t go back when you inevitably put the weight back on. This perpetuates the Yo-Yo Diet Cycle I referred to at the beginning of this article and, invariably for most, a cycle of guilt.

It’s hard to find genuine businesses like Matt Farrell Health & Fitness, where educating you to succeed long after your coaching journey with us has concluded, is one of our core values. You’re here now though, reading this, so I have faith and confidence that this is the start to you:

  • Putting down the: Skinny Teas, Juices, Bullet Proof Coffees, Lemon Water (drink it if you like it, but it has zero fat loss properties), Fad Diets

  • Ignoring the influencers: With their “this is what I eat in a day” bullshit, that just makes you feel crap about yourself. They are potentially a lot more active than you, as they don’t have a regular job. They have considerably more money and can pay for the best trainers and nutritionists to get into shape. Yet still the propagate falsehoods and really bad advice. Influencers can get in the bin.

  • Thinking that: every time that you go all in, press the f*ck it button and eat aallll the food you’ve totally screwed your diet and you fall off the wagon. Again. Until the next time.

  • Avoiding slimming clubs and finding an alternative that teaches you how to unlock lifelong health with sustainable practices that can be integrated into a normal lifestyle.

All of the above will only be achieved if you ditch the over complication and keep it simple.

My 4 steps to achieve this are:

1. Calorie Deficit (MyFitnessPal can do this, or you can hire a coach to calculate it for you)

2. Prioritise Lean Protein, Fruit & Veg and Water

3. Activity and movement outside of the Gym (Steps)

4. Resistance Training 2-5 times per week

Bingo! 💡 Lightbulb moment! There’s your formula for fat loss (without getting into the bio-psychosocial limiters that impact adherence, that’s for another post).

The biggest takeaway you need from reading this post?

Don’t give up for the sake of one day’s indulgence. Draw a line under it, move on, get back on it.

Don’t leave it for weeks until the next time. Take immediate action and you’re immediately back on course.

Or hire a Coach to do the thinking for you. You’ll wish you did it years ago.
